"OUR HISTORY" - Bouvier Bridge Marina was strictly that, just a marina, a nice place to dock your boat. But, in the spring of 1991, Dick Thomas, Lorraine Karasinski , Dan Bartholomew and, a few months later, Frank Olejniczak decided to form an Entertainment Committee to promote activities, fun and friendship for all marina patrons to enjoy. Finally after a lot of blood, sweat and tears, not to mention hard work, a new, fully accredited yacht club was formed. Bouvier Bay Yacht Club was born! What proud parents Dick , Lorraine , Dan and Frank were at that time. In January, 1993, BBYC submitted a request to the ABYA to become an associated member. The ABYA Officers and Delegates voted on the request at their monthly meeting and it was unanimously approved. During this long, stressful winter and spring, the newly formed BBYC Bridge conducted many planning meetings to provide the new membership a summer full of fun and successful events. BBYC has been a viable and active club ever since. "THE CLUB" - Bouvier Bay Yacht Club (BBYC) is a non-profit organization, functioning for the pleasure of its members, whose purpose is to encourage safe, enjoyable boating and social activities. There are three (3) types of membership;
"CLUB LEADERSHIP" - Operation and activities of BBYC are directed by its Commodore and Bridge Officers. Normally, these individuals serve through the Offices of Secretary, Treasurer, Fleet Captain, Rear Commodore, Vice Commodore, and ultimately Commodore. Each year the office of Secretary is filled by election. Additionally, a Governing Board, consisting of at least four (4) Past Commodores of BBYC, plus a representative of BBM, provides direction. The purpose of the board is to ensure cooperation between BBM and BBYC, assist the Commodore and Bridge as needed and provide direction where year-to-year continuity is paramount. "RELATIONSHIPS" - BBM and BBYC, although separate and independent, compliment each other and cooperate for the benefit of all. Marina business, security, maintenance and rules regarding use of the facilities are the responsibility of BBM. Social activities, both intra and inter club, are the business of BBYC. BBM makes facilities available to BBYC, with cooperation regarding expense and personnel requirements. "BBYC AFFILIATIONS" - BBYC maintains membership in the Anchor Bay Yachting Association (ABYA), along with over 30 clubs in the area. The ABYA promotes interests of area boaters, in addition, sponsors and encourages participation in inter-club social, charitable, and legislative activities. A Delegate represents each member club, normally the immediate Past Commodore, who attends monthly meetings and reports back to the club. BBYC is also a chapter member of the International Order of the Blue Gavel (IOBG). The IOBG is an organization of Past Commodores of yacht clubs who maintain their interest in organized boating. Its purpose is to assist and encourage, at the club level, a means of channeling charitable activity through its IOBG Humanitarian Foundation. Spouses of BBYC IOBG members are eligible for and do participate in the IOBG Auxiliary (IOBGA). This organization compliments the IOBG in purposes, with its own agenda, officers and activities. "BBYC COMMITTEES" – The "Election" and "Membership" are examples of year-to-year committees. The Commodore and Bridge can also form Committees as needed to assist with club activities. Participation is a way to "get involved." If you have an interest or suggestion, discuss it with the Commodore or Bridge Officer. "BBYC ACTIVITIES" - Membership meetings are held monthly and all members are encouraged to attend. From the spring Flag Raising Ceremony through parties and boat trips, the fall End of Boating Season Party, and finally the Christmas Party, BBYC offers many opportunities for good times. Our monthly newsletter, "The Bridge Traffic", includes descriptions and dates of upcoming events. The major social activity of the year is the Commodores Ball, all members are expected to support this activity by attending and if practical, inviting family and friends. "THE MARINA" – BOUVIER BRIDGE MARINA, LLC (BBM), is a docominium (Michigan Condominium) development and a public marina. Principal owner/marina operator is Mr. Michael George. Minority ownership is held by those individuals owning a boat well and pro-rated share of the common condominium property. The Marina Manager (Joe Mazur) has responsibilities that include the hiring and supervising of personnel as well as directing the operation of the marina. Bouvier Bay Yacht Club has priority use of all the facilities of BBM, which include a club house, pool, activity rooms, etc. "BBM AFFILIATIONS" – BBM is a BOAT/U.S. cooperating marina with membership benefits. BBM is also a member of various marina trade organizations. |
